Executive Director
E. Timotheus Kamaboakai is the Chief Executive Officer of the Kartumu Yarta Boakai (KYB) Foundation in Liberia, founded by Her Excellency Madam Kartumu Yarta Boakai, First Lady of Liberia. Mr. Kamaboakai, a seasoned leader with over 25 years of professional experience, stepped into his role after a distinguished career at the Liberia YMCA, where he served as National General Secretary/CEO until May 2024.
Mr. Kamaboakai’s career at the Liberia YMCA spanned numerous leadership roles, including Development Secretary (2012-2017), Project Manager for the European Commission-funded project "Supporting Youth Livelihoods and Governance in Liberia and Sierra Leone" (2009-2013), and Program Manager for Peace Building and Civic Education (2006-2007). He was also the Liberia YMCA’s first Information Officer (2004-2007), managing critical information dissemination initiatives including community radio stations and newsletters.
Beyond his work in Liberia, Mr. Kamaboakai has served in international roles, such as International Trainer and Facilitator for the North-South Center of the Council of Europe’s Training of Trainers Program for Youth Leaders in Africa and Europe (2009-2010) and as a Young Professional at the World Alliance of YMCAs in Geneva (2008), representing youth perspectives at international forums, including the United Nations.
Mr. Kamaboakai holds a Master’s degree in Public Affairs (Non-Profit Management & Strategic Planning) from the University of Minnesota (2016) and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Social Work from the United Methodist University in Liberia (2007). His commitment to capacity-building and governance is evident in his participation in numerous international training programs and conferences, including the YMCA International Conference in California, USA (2011), Peace Building and Conflict Mitigation Training in South Africa (2012), and the 17th World Council of YMCAs in Hong Kong (2010).
In his new role as CEO of the KYB Foundation, Mr. Kamaboakai is dedicated to advancing the Foundation’s mission of improving the socio-economic well-being of women, youth, and children in Liberia. The Foundation focuses on enhancing livelihoods through sustainable agriculture and entrepreneurship, improving health and nutrition for mothers and children, and addressing gender-based violence (GBV) by fostering safe environments for youth.
Mr. Kamaboakai embodies a leadership philosophy grounded in resilience and opportunity, as reflected in his belief that “In the midst of every difficulty, lies an opportunity” — a quote attributed to Albert Einstein. With his vast experience in youth development, strategic planning, and governance, Mr. Kamaboakai continues to impact Liberia's communities through his visionary leadership at the KYB Foundation.
